It's not news that the Nigerian electoral process of 2023 has been marked by controversy, leaving many disillusioned with the nation's current status. As a result, the majority of Nigerian youths have lost faith in the government's ability to foster an enabling environment for peace and success. Many are battling depression and thoughts of fleeing the nation under this chaos. It is impossible to emphasize the influence of these difficulties on the concentration of young people in school. In these difficult times, it is vital to find strategies to maintain resilience and cultivate emotional intelligence. This blog article attempts to provide words of encouragement and actionable suggestions to assist our youth in regaining their school focus and navigating these obstacles with grace. Also, we present our new web application, Youth Mentors Hub Initiative, (www.WhatNextMentors.org) which is aimed to enhance mentoring and support.

1. Recognize and Validate Your Emotions

First and foremost, it is crucial to acknowledge and validate your emotions. It is acceptable to feel agitated, furious, or despondent about the current condition of affairs. Recognizing your emotions improves your understanding of your own sentiments and offers you the ability to address them in a constructive manner.

2. Develop a Development Mindset

Having a growth mindset might assist you in viewing setbacks as growth opportunities rather than insurmountable obstacles. Accept the difficulties of the current circumstance as an opportunity to learn, adapt, and become more resilient. As Nelson Mandela famously said, "Judge me not by my triumphs, but by the number of times I've fallen and gotten back up." Understand that both happy and negative experiences can contribute to your personal growth and development.

3. Request Assistance from the Community

You are not alone in experiencing these difficulties. Reach out to your friends, family, and classmates to express your emotions, discuss your concerns, and provide mutual support. Developing a solid support network can aid you in navigating challenging situations and give you with useful insights into your condition.

4. Build Healthy Coping Strategies

Emotional intelligence is inextricably linked to the ability to manage stress and adversity. Employ healthy coping strategies, such as frequent exercise, mindfulness meditation, journaling, and engaging in enjoyable hobbies. These exercises can help you maintain emotional equilibrium and mitigate the detrimental effects of stress on academic achievement.

5. Concentrate on What You Can Manage

It's normal to feel powerless in the face of uncontrollable situations, but it's crucial to realize that there are still parts of your life that you can influence. Concentrate on what you can influence, including your academic success, personal growth, and relationships. By focusing on these areas, you can reestablish a sense of control and direction in the face of uncertainty.

6. Establish Realistic Objectives and Prioritize Your Time

Establishing attainable objectives might help you keep concentration and motivation through difficult situations. Deconstruct your objectives into smaller, more doable activities and organize your time efficiently to guarantee that you are making progress. Appreciate your achievements, regardless of their size, to build your confidence and retain a positive mindset.

Announcing the Youth Mentors Hub Initiative: A Support and Mentoring Platform We are thrilled to announce the introduction of our new web application, What Next Mentors, to further assist young Nigerians. This innovative network seeks to match mentors and mentees in Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Academics, and community Development (LEAD). By engaging with seasoned professionals and like-minded individuals, young Nigerians can get essential insights, advice, and encouragement to aid them in navigating their academic and personal journeys during these challenging times.

We think that through mentorship and community involvement, Nigerian youths may develop the resilience and emotional intelligence required to overcome the obstacles they confront. Youth who participate in the Youth Mentors Hub Program can not only reclaim their academic focus but also contribute to the growth of their communities and the nation as a whole. We encourage you to join us in creating a brighter future for the Nigeria's youth.

Conclusion

The present electoral issue in Nigeria has had a huge influence on the country's youth, impairing their ability to concentrate in school and their sense of optimism for the future. But, by growing emotional intelligence and resiliency, young people can recover their concentration and continue to pursue their aspirations. By admitting and validating their feelings, adopting a growth attitude, obtaining community support, creating healthy coping mechanisms, focusing on what they can control, and making attainable objectives, Nigerian youngsters may traverse these difficult times with strength and resolve. Let Nelson Mandela's remarks serve as a reminder that setbacks are an opportunity for progress, and we can overcome hardship through persistence. During these challenging times, the Youth Mentors Hub Program provides Nigerian youths of diverse background with a vital resource for connecting with mentors, gaining support, and building resilience. By enrolling in this program, Nigerian youth can reclaim their scholastic focus, contribute to their communities, and construct a brighter future. Let us remain united and embrace resilience as we face the upcoming obstacles. Sincerely.
